Monthly Membership Meeting
7:00 pm - Tuesday, January 13th
New Location! - Spates Club
Register to Attend
by Monday, January 5th
Our usual meeting location, Patton Hall, is expected to be closed for the beginning of a multi-year renovation. Our monthly meetings are switching to Ft. Myer's Spates Community Club — the same venue where we've held many of our picnics. Click for a map showing the Spates location.
Ft. Myer has said they'll confirm the venue switch in early January. If by some chance we'll still be in Patton Hall, we'll send an email blast, shortly before the meeting to confirm the venue. Otherwise, we'll see you in Spates!
The evening will include a presentation on Heli-Skiing by Barb Follett of Canadian Mountain Holidays.
Our complimentary menu (to be confirmed) will include Caesar Salad, Chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce, Green Beans, and assorted cookies for dessert. A cash bar will be available for the drinks of your choice.
Register To Attend
We're asking everyone to register to attend – by Monday, January 5th (just a week before the meeting) – so we can adjust the catering.
Ski Trip Final Payments
One of our trips has final payments due on January 1st (i.e., prior to the meeting). Please submit your payment online before the New Year, or mail your check to reach us by then:
- Madonna Di Campiglio, Italy
Two other trips have final payments due coincident with the meeting:
- Deer Valley, Utah
- Whistler, Canada
There are several ways to make your final payments:
- The preferred way to pay your remaining balance is to make your payment directly against your trip invoice. You can find your invoice(s) from your profile page by selecting your name in the upper right corner of the website when you are logged in.
- You can also use our Partial Payments Page and make payments for one or more trips, or for one or more members, in a single transaction. You will need to know your remaining balance.
- If you prefer to pay by check, make it payable to the Pentagon Ski Club and mail it to our treasurer: Tom Gallagher, 8203 Lazy Point Lane, Lorton, VA 22079. Indicate which trip, and what skier(s), it is for.
Council Election
Our annual election of members to the club's leadership Council will take place at our April monthly meeting. Three current members with expiring terms have agreed to run for reelection – Dave Olsen, Steve Peirce, and Dina Zeese. Council membership is open to all club members in accordance with our Bylaws. Contact our Election Chairperson, Christina Anderson, by January 12th (i.e., the day before the January meeting) if you're interested in running. The resulting slate of candidates will be announced at the meeting, during which we will also accept nominations from the floor.
Bringing a Guest?
If you plan to come to the meeting with someone else, there are two ways to let us know:
- If your companion is a club member in their own right, they can log in with their credentials and register for the meeting much as they would do if signing up for a trip.
- Whether your companion is a club member or not, you can simply include them in your own meeting registration by clicking on the Add guest button before submitting your registration.
If Your Plans Change
If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please let us know (ideally by Monday, January 5th) so we can adjust our catering order. You may do this by:
- Calling (301-579-2749) or emailing Dave Olsen
- Cancelling your registration yourself:
-
- log into your account
- click on your name at the top
- click on My Event Registrations
- click on your meeting registration
- click on the Already registered link
- click on the Cancel registration button
Entry to Ft. Myer
REAL ID Requirement
Ft. Myer has implemented a REAL ID Requirement (click for the full explanation on their website). Briefly:
- All occupants of a vehicle should be prepared to present a REAL ID at the security checkpoint.
- Any occupant who does not have a REAL ID-compliant state driver’s license will need to provide a second form of identification. We suggest you check Ft. Myer's website for the list of acceptable ID.
- You should be able to enter the base as normal if you have an active duty, retired, or dependent military ID, or a DoD-issued Common Access Card (CAC).
- One-Day Access: You might consider instead applying for a temporary/one-day access online at this website:
-
- Select Other and indicate Pentagon Ski Club Meeting as your Reason for Visit
- If approved, you'll receive a text notification on your phone that links to your ID credential.
- Your application must normally be submitted at least four days in advance of your visit, but might be approved almost instantaneously depending on your footprint in various online systems.
Long-Term Ft. Myer Visitor Entry Access
You may recall that we offered an opportunity, when signing up for our September and December meetings, to be sponsored for obtaining long-term (1-year) visitor access to Ft. Myer. We anticipate being able to repeat that opportunity on a quarterly basis. The next opportunity will be in conjunction with our March 10, 2026 monthly meeting. But not at this time.
VCC Operating Hours: Ft. Myer's Visitor Control Center has shortened their hours:
- They were previously open 0600-1700 M-F and 1000-1500 Saturday
- Their current hours (as of September 2025) are 0700-1530 Mon-Fri ONLY
Physical Visitor Passes No Longer Issued: Ft. Myer is no longer issuing physical visitor passes. Instead, they will link your access approval to your REAL ID. Then, they will simply scan your REAL ID at the gate. If your state driver's license is not REAL ID compliant, they will link to it, but you will still need to provide your second form of identification (discussed above) each time you enter.
